Installing QMAIL+Toaster on CentOS 5.2

Posted 03-29-2009 at 05:50 PM by tonywhansn

I am a bit overwhelmed by the installation instructions at http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.p...oaster_Install.

Also these instructions are written to install both CentOS and Qmail Toaster. But I already have a CentOS Dedicated Server at an ISP and have installed XAMPP with Apache, MySQL, etc. Does anyone know where there is a guide to add Qmail Toaster to this configuration?

Thanks.

Updated 03-29-2009 at 05:19 AM by shannonbay

Just bought a second hand Dell for my studies. My PC did come with a Win XP installation but since I didn't have internet access I couldn't figure out how to partition my hard drive for the slack install without overwriting XP (which was fine).

Installing slackware was easy - I just let it install everything (4.5+ GB) which was fine since I have 40GB to fill up, and I'm not that much of a prolific coder.

Learned that it's a dual core processor (two tux's). I actually...

Sudo And It's Intended Purpose

I've seen many threads on LQ regarding the use of 'sudo' and each time I'm shocked at how often this utility is misunderstood.

Here I will will try and convey my interpretation of its intended proper use and describe alternate methods of accomplishing the same tasks more securely or in a best use context.

'sudo' is a utility that grants authority to run very specific commands as root from a non-root account, or specifically,...

Thoughts about the command line

Posted 03-29-2009 at 03:36 AM by bitpicker (Bitpicker's Blog: Random musings and rants)

The following started out as a comment to this blog entry by Carla Schroder on linuxtoday.com. But it quickly became too long so I decided to simply post it here.

Any interface is a metaphor for what you're really doing: shifting zeroes and ones around. Absolutely everything you ever do on the computer is just a metaphor, whether it's using a GUI, the CLI or even programming.

And like language metaphors, different metaphors are useful in different contexts and apply...
