Apple ipod nano

Posted 03-17-2009 at 03:23 AM by ussromantics

Okay, here's my first blog post. I have a new apple ipod nano, i'm completely new to ipods. Also, I'm completely new to linux. I don't know what it means to mount an ipod, for example. I'm using rhythmbox, but i've also got gtkpod.
Anyway, it's driving me crazy. i've downloaded Amarok, but I'm trying to work out how to get music from a cd onto the ipod, but no luck. i've managed to get the names of some songs showing up on the ipod but they don't play. all i've managed to get on there is...

Linux Desktop Weather Radar Application

Posted 03-16-2009 at 03:37 PM by raconteur (raconteur's rotunda)

As many of you know, I'm the creator and maintainer of StormPredator, a Windows desktop weather radar application (but I didn't choose the name!).

There are some Linux weather radar apps, but none that I've found that have the same sort of magic combination of ease-of-use and depth of features that some of their Windows counterparts enjoy.

With that in mind, I'm launching an open-source project to create a Linux desktop weather radar display application.
My plan...

Sound Solutions for Ubuntu Hardy,Intrepid and Jaunty Users

Posted 03-16-2009 at 02:15 AM by sridhar11

If you have just upgraded to or installed Hardy or Intrepid or Jaunty and you have some sound somewhere, but not everywhere for everything, this is a fast way to get all the missing stuff you need and give you some tools to figure out what is going on. If you hear the startup sound but nothing else, or if some applications work and others don’t, this is for you. If you have no sound at all, there is a link at the end of this post for more extensive troubleshooting help but you should try this...

Epiphany better than Firefox?

Posted 03-15-2009 at 04:52 AM by abhishekbatra

I, like so mamy other people stuck with machines now deemed ancient, used to crib a lot about my browser taking up most of my computer's memory especially with a web application like gmail running. Which made me take Epiphany seriously, which at first sight did not seem to be any match for Firefox.
But I found it true to its word. An almost bare bones browser and very easy to use, it just needs the the extra extensions package installed to get the work done for most users at a very low memory...
