Clonezilla Live

Posted 06-12-2009 at 03:29 PM by archtoad6

I lead the Samba & Network Administration SIG (Special Interest Group) at HAL-PC (www.hal-pc.org) here in Houston. For the last few sessions we have been in a "Disaster Recovery Arc" -- trying out various Free Software/Open Source bare metal back-up & restore software. Last Saturday, June 6, 2009, one of our members gave an excellent presentation on Clonezilla Live.

xorg 1.6.1 surprises

Posted 06-11-2009 at 07:05 PM by gabim
Tags slackware

After upgrading to xorg 1.6.1, I noticed that my hungarian layout of keyboard switched off at the KDM login.
I checked the xorg.conf, but the
Code:
    Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
    Option "XkbLayout" "hu"
was still there.
I checked the /var/log/Xorg.0.log also and noticed some warnings and errors, mainly the "AllowEmptyInput" warning that it is enabled and will ignore my keyboard definition. Wow!...

This is a duplication of some of the posts I made to the debian forum on LinuxQuestions, as well as some new material. What follows immediately is the first post to the thread. After that I skip around the thread a little. I've purposely only duplicated my own posts here, though some of the others were interesting. To read the original thread go to this link:

PR disaster alert: Asus attacks on Linux

Posted 06-11-2009 at 02:18 AM by erlik

So ASUS decided to part way with Linux, the operating system that made the brand famous, to join forces with Microsoft. And they decided to make it in a very public way by stating a nice 'better with Windows campaign'. Well, sorry to disappoint you ASUS, but this is turning into a Public relation disaster!

As the articles here and here as well as the discussion on the LinuxQuestions forum point out, leaving Linux is not only a bad move from a technical point of view but the way it...
