Still going...

Posted 07-04-2010 at 03:19 AM by Chargh

Although life has forced me to neglect some of my projects recently, I have been able to put some more work into them in the past few weeks. I am confident that I will have more things to show by the end of the summer.

My first bit of progress this year was an easy but necessary update to Alexei: Part IX, which brings it up to version 1.2.8. Nothing really new in the release, just some code clean-up and other cosmetic fixes. Hopefully I will have more to show for my work soon....

The script (except for make xconfig, which it executes for you but expects...

Updated 07-03-2010 at 12:23 PM by damgar

Well I had a beautifully crafted and well edited blog entry about my experience getting Arch going, but someone ran over a utility pole just as I was hitting "Post Now" so that's my excuse and you can't prove otherwise!

I have actually installed Arch successfully twice at this point, although I had already formatted the first install due to kernel panics at boot, before I bothered to read about Arch's method of initramfs. I was fairly sure it was an initrd issue, but...

Thoughts on why we love to hate MS.

Posted 07-02-2010 at 04:24 PM by rich_c

I read an article today entitled "Why do we (Love to) hate Microsoft." An interesting piece but the comments are as, if not more, telling. I, like many others spent many years not knowing any better. My Microsoft user days go back to MSX home computers. At the time, it seemed to me that the philosophy of 'one system to rule them all' was a good one in the interests of interoperability. I quite happily used Windows 3.11 and Windows 95 but then had a brief dabble with SuSE. As a Windows...
