Marketing to home users.

Posted 12-30-2009 at 11:39 AM by rich_c

I've been wondering of late what can be done about stepping up the marketing of Linux to home users. Probably the only company that would have any interest in doing this is Canonical. The other big Linux players aim themselves more at corporate use and those large organisations that do supply Linux PCs to home users no doubt have pressure put on them to keep it low key from Microsoft.

There was the Linux Foundation video competition some time ago and Ken Starks' foray into radio advertising....

Starting from scratch, here's what I do:

Keeping the Stock Slackware Up-to-date
  1. Install a fresh Slackware from the iso.
  2. Use lftp with the mirror option to mirror the /slackware64-13.0/patches/packages/ directory from my favorite Slackware mirror:
    lftp -c "open ; mirror -e -n packages"

Jingle Bells, Windows Smells

Posted 12-27-2009 at 02:05 AM by CoderMan

Jingle bells, Windows smells,
Bill Gates laid an egg
The code was closed, our freedom hosed,
Yet Linux saved the day!

Screaming loud and hard,
patents in his hand
Ballmer felt secure,
he thought he had us canned
But Tuxians all unite,
and Freedom wins the day
For FOSS is still alive,
and fighting all the way! HEY!

Jingle bells, Windows smells... [repeat]

Nvidia drivers, open gl drivers, screen flickers in x occasionaly.

This is the fix:

1) vim /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia.conf

2) add ad the end
options nvidia NVreg_RegistryDwords="PerfLevelSrc=0x2222"
