You know you are a complete Linux nutter when... ( & Google/Wikipedia elinks search scripts )

Posted 09-28-2010 at 07:56 AM by William (Dthdealer) (Whaling the FOSS)

You have one computer on the left. A second older computer sits to your right, sshed into the first.

You play a game fullscreen on the first, while running scanmem on the other. Who ever needed multiple monitor outputs?

I only realised what I was doing when I took a few steps back. Anyone passing by would probably think I'm cracking into someone's computer whilst playing some MineCraft.

+1 multitasking

While I'm here, here are two useful scripts...

Kate indentation

Posted 09-27-2010 at 06:36 AM by robertvi

One of the most annoying things for a programmer is a text editor which is trying to automatically
indent the source code in a different way than the coder wants. I use an editor called kate from the KDE project, and I'm currently trying to figured out what the heck is going on with automatic indentation, and thought I would document the process in the hope of helping someone else avoid this problem. I'm using Kate version 3.4.2. [Jump to the summary at the end if you're in a hurry]

Long time! .... Hope you've all been good. :P

Just want to share a new Linux Bash commands wallpaper with all you Linux fans out there. It's a good way to keep your codes close without flipping through the books or searching the web or something.

The perfect FOSS kernel: Hybrid Linux and GNU Hurd

Posted 09-25-2010 at 05:34 PM by Kenny_Strawn (Kenny the one-teen comittee to stamp out Proprietary $uckware)

The Linux/HURD debate has been going on since the dawn of the GNU project and there are benefits and downsides to both projects.

Advantages to Linux:
  • Is very secure and has grown very much since it was first released
  • Is very popular and is free and open source software
  • Has grown (thanks in part to Ubuntu and Mint) extremely easy to use

Disadvantages to Linux:
  • Monolithic kernel design means that the entire kernel must be rebuilt to add or remove features
