Update: OpenBSD AMIs are available in the Ireland region as of this update. Please use those instead of the below instructions!

OpenBSD-5.9-beta introduced an important piece of the puzzle for running OpenBSD on AWS. It introduced Xen Guest drivers, namely the network drivers.

This is seriously cool. I have a few OpenBSD VPSs around the world doing various things in KVM, but I've always wanted to "bring them home" to AWS.

Run your Ubuntu/Debian 64 bit system with the latest stable kernel 4.4.0!

Updated 01-12-2016 at 04:06 PM by exton (More info)

I have compiled yet another Ubuntu/Debian kernel for 64 bit systems. This time kernel 4.4.0-0-exton, equivalent to Kernel.orgs latest stable kernel 4.4.0 released 160110.

Whats new in kernel 4.4?

Install kernel 4.4.0-0-exton in Ubuntu/Debian based distributions
My self-compiled Ubuntu kernels can be used in all types of modern Ubuntu systems, including Mint. They can even be used in Debian Jessie (Debian 8.2) and Debian Stretch (upcoming Debian 9).

User style/CSS to get rid of Google's "come here often" pop-up

Posted 01-12-2016 at 01:00 PM by the dsc (linux-related notes)

Seems to work for me on firefox/iceweasel:

@namespace url(;

@-moz-document domain("")
 .gb_ga, .gb_g { display: none !important; }
British users probably need to change the domain to "" and likewise for some other countries that aren't subdomains of;]

How to fix the Clock in Slackware

Posted 01-12-2016 at 08:14 AM by Ztcoracat

Many times I have tried fixing the clock in Slackware and for some reason timeconfig didn't work for me at all.

I found a way to fix the clock and it works everytime the clock is wrong.-

Open the terminal as root and run these commands one at a time.

# date -s "12:00:00"
Finally to make the new set right time permanent also for the BIOS battery clock issue:
# hwclock
