3 Days and now Stand-alone LFS.

Posted 10-08-2013 at 10:57 PM by ReaperX7

Yes, I deleted my old LFS install and use SalixOS Live 13.37 disk to install my system from the ground up alongside Windows.

It took some extra work, but it's completed, partially. I still have a few extra packages to add using a chroot entry from SalixLive before I can natively access it correctly, but so far all is well.

I had to completely import Debian's os-prober with a modified installation using the Slackware SlackBuild script as a guide, but it worked and both...

mimeopen: a nice tool to setup default applications

Posted 10-05-2013 at 12:06 AM by the dsc (linux-related notes)

File association and default applications can be quite complicated, and hard to remember, specially if you have a hybrid environment, using stuff from Gnome, KDE, and whatever, while not being in none of the big ones, but on openbox or something.

One common source of problems are associations within web browsers, like firefox or chrome. They'll often have their own or use some secondary/wrong file association. I was having this problem with Google Chrome, "show in folder"...

How does the US fix it's nonfunctional Congress?

Posted 10-02-2013 at 07:08 PM by flshope

While this issue is not typical LQ material, we LQ users do represent an international set of geeks and nerds, perhaps with some intelligence advantage, but certainly with some capability for independent thinking. How do we fix the US Congress?

- term limits?
- more restrictive educational requirements?
- math-based law restricting gerrymandering?
- random selection of members every decade or two?
- incorporate some characteristics of a parliamentary system?...
