debian lenny - STABLE bug.

Posted 07-21-2010 at 12:21 PM by Web31337 (In The Middle Of Nowhere [edK's blog])

I have just lost my backup data thanks to STABLE versions of stupid GUI "xfburn".
Of course it was mainly my fault I didn't check if it was written okay or not and just put that away then removed source files from hard disk. Im now wondering what's on that DVD disc, some space looks to be non-empty but mounted disc is empty. Quest for future. Luckily, the data wasn't that way important so that's why I didn't check it, in oppose to other discs I've written that day.

linux tips

TIP 1:

cpio works like tar, only better.

STEP 1 (Create two directories with data ../dir1 an ../dir2)

mkdir -p ../dir1
mkdir -p ../dir2
cp /etc/*.conf ../dir1/.
cp /etc/*.cnf ../dir2/.

Which will backup all your cnf and conf files.

STEP 2 (Piping the files to tar)

cpio works like tar but can take input

opera 9.64 on gentoo x86_64, and other issues

Finally I've managed to set this up.
Putting my experience here, hoping it will help someone and would be on top of google results.

There are reasons for me to keep 9.64 instead of using 10.x versions. The one reason is that opera 9.64 is somehow more secure, since, most users usually upgrade to newer version (since opera is not windows/linux-bundled) and newer versions look nicely. I don't need new functionality that is bundled with 10.x tree, the other reason for why I'm...

DD-WRT and openvpn...........SUCCESS !

Posted 07-20-2010 at 01:34 AM by damgar

Well it took most of my free time today, but I finally got my DD-WRT with openvpn working perfectly. As is often the case with open source (in my experience anyway) the tools were there for the taking, but the directions required a bit of hunting, plus some trial and error. I am posting this with a full tunnel from my neighbor's "borrowed" wifi back to my LAN and back out through my ISP and then back through the tunnel again! I'm really not the paranoid type and mostly wanted access...
