Debootstrap Yourself, or "What is a good distro for my old computer?" (2)

And why am I doing this instead of a normal install? Well, that involves a rain storm, an experiment, and an eBay purchase. The end result was not being able to boot from the CD-ROM. Since it's too old to boot from USB, and flashy new Linux kernels have forsaken floppy installs, my options narrowed considerably. During the course of my research I stumbled across "debootstrap", and the rest is written below.

True story from IRC about how to make sh*t from opensource. It is just my way of thinking.
Opensource should be a god's light. You may judge me for saying or doing this in a rough way... but i stand my ground for opensource. and this is just my way of doing things. i will never use a help of dark lords of proprietary software.

Real nicks(and a project name/version too) are replaced with "some_other_developer" and "Project_Lead_Developer". I don't really...

Rootkit Hunter 1.3.6 release

I'm pleased to announce the release of Rootkit Hunter version 1.3.6 (D/L link).

This release offers more ease of use (mainly through configuration options) and improved rootkit and malware checks. The change log lists 29 additions including 9 configuration options and details for 12 rootkits, 29 changes including improvements for 15 rootkit checks and 22 bugfixes. For more details please see the CHANGELOG. This release obsoletes all previous ones so please upgrade.

*anger* Xorg 1.6 is driving me crazy. *FIXED*

Ok, so I just reinstalled Gentoo on my main machine, and I installed Xorg too (with the appropriate input drivers installed too).

Only I can't get it to work.

Blank screen
No input of any kind
No way of getting out of it without a hard reboot

It's almost as if the Xorg devs expect people to stay with the CLI after the installation of Xorg-fail-server version "Goonandscrewyourself".6

having fun with bash varaibles: indirect variable references

Well I recently started messing around with bash scripts as cgi scripts and was wondering how to pass variables in and what not.

Well it turns out, Apache will define the variable $QUERY_STRING which will contain everything after the first question mark. You can then pars this string to define variables. The general format is "name1=val1&name2=val2". It turns out you can actually declare variables in bash using 'declare' and parameter expansion.
