My First Attempt at a Blog

Well, I have not really ever had a blog, but I suppose I will make my first attempt at one here on LQ. I'm not going to do too much writing myself, but rather post a few of my favourite quotes that for one reason or another really mean something to me.

"Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this...

Internet health tax?

Posted 03-03-2010 at 03:26 PM by rich_c

Somewhat related to my previous post, I was reading this with interest. I saw a comment on the same story that pretty much likened Microsoft Windows users to smokers. They risk their own health and by 'passive smoking' (i.e. the unfiltered garbage they spew out.) the health of others. So, to continue with that analogy, any tax should be on the sale of Microsoft products which should also come with a 'health' warning. That way, the majority of the people causing the problem bear the brunt of...

Security. (Again!)

Posted 03-02-2010 at 02:55 PM by rich_c

I was browsing the BBC news site and found this story. Rather predictably, there's no mention of the system that presents the bad guys with the most vulnerabilities to exploit... (I'm thinking NSA/SELinux here...)

Another interesting and far less biased development I saw recently was this. Seems...

I was going to work this night but I guess I failed at this. One thought about watching movies and it took all nite long... Oh man...
Well, I was watching "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Winds" (1984), I'd say it's one of my favourite movies. It's totally outstanding and amazing movie about Love as it is.
I respect people having that level of using imagination. Ones who create such masterpieces that show us Life as it is, meant to be understood by almost everyone. Right here,...

Migrating from WinXP to Ubuntu 9.10

Posted 03-01-2010 at 01:08 PM by SrDorothy

Finally!...I'm spending most of my time working in the Ubuntu half of my computer (multiboot). I gave up wishing the GUI networking stuff would work, and mounted my docs from the server using the command line; then automounted by editing /etc/fstab I had heard about this in my Linux group, but got the details by searching on the Internet.

I also have changed, mostly, the applications I use to those I can use in Ubuntu 9.10. There are still a couple of newsletters I am doing in Windows...
