Had some time to fiddle with my netbook lately.

As I use it only for work abroad to connect to the internet and listen to music it was not a priority to change the OS on that one too. And sometimes it comes in handy to have a native Windows System running somewhere.

So I decided on setting up LINUX Debian 6.0 Squeeze to dual boot with Windows XP SP3.

Since I've got a new compact digital camera about a year ago I have the trouble that it's internal format is .MTS

.MTS ? What the heck is that? A question a lot of people will come up with as not all of us are the video cracks and sooo knowledgeable about all that stuff.

So - what would work under Linux to do something useful with all your videos having an .mts format?

Searches will lead you to ffmpeg a very powerful tool for video conversion. But unless...

SELinux, syslog-ng, and the like

So recently in my home setup I installed a scheme for centralized logging. I use rsyslog or syslog on the client servers and syslog-ng on the central server. This is nothing new and has been done before.

rsyslog + syslog-ng = gold.

I have a script which parses the syslog-ng logs across all the servers, filters them, and then sends and email with a summary and unusual logs. Each time I got an email I would get, on average, ~200-500 log messages of SELinux errors and...

Raspberry Pi - Debian Build

So little time to play :-( had my Pi many weeks!

So far had the official Debian distro loaded, config file tweaked to shrink the screen to fit my HDMI TV's and fstab file modified to mount my music and vidieo SMB shares on the server. Will back date this blog with details of the above later, very lax of me I know.
