LQ Court Case: FOSS v. Software Fascism

Posted 06-18-2010 at 12:58 AM by Kenny_Strawn (Kenny the one-teen comittee to stamp out Proprietary $uckware)

I know, I know, the flame war between proprietary software advocates and FOSS advocates. It has plagued the Internet since the 1990s but, ultimately, FOSS is more free, is more controlled by the user, has less locks (like "Activation" or "Apple Hardware Exclusivity"), and is more customizable than ANY proprietary software.

Case in point: By hogging all the source code to your software, you effectively BLOCK development. To allow faster development and improvement...

Posted 06-17-2010 at 09:15 PM by ultimate_linux

1.linux is less on resources i.e., it uses less CPU,MEMORY which means power consumption is less.
on an average windows 7 consumes 600MB of RAM,but, linux uses only 200MB means linux consumes 1/3rd of power that of windows consumes in case of RAM.

2.unlike windows, linux is 100% immune to,we don't need an anti-virus which means we are not using our power, time to download an anti-virus,update it,scan the computer.

3.linux never hangs up,so,u need not...

Helping out a FOSS brother.

Posted 06-17-2010 at 09:31 AM by rich_c

I overheard my managers at work discussing a CV (Resume for our transatlantic friends.) that had arrived for their attention in odf format. They were clearly perplexed as to what to do with it, suggestions including opening it in notepad... Fortunately for the person who submitted it, I was able to offer to convert it for them. Naturally, I also expressed my approval for anyone who submits their CV in an open format!
