Arch Linux Update

Posted 07-03-2010 at 01:12 PM by damgar

Well I had a beautifully crafted and well edited blog entry about my experience getting Arch going, but someone ran over a utility pole just as I was hitting "Post Now" so that's my excuse and you can't prove otherwise!

I have actually installed Arch successfully twice at this point, although I had already formatted the first install due to kernel panics at boot, before I bothered to read about Arch's method of initramfs. I was fairly sure it was an initrd issue, but...

Thoughts on why we love to hate MS.

Posted 07-02-2010 at 05:24 PM by rich_c

Deleting the partitions via XP or the 98 bootable CD was not clean and these programs could not cleanly delete the Linux partitions. THe linux partitions have to be deleted via the Linux programs itself.

Procedure:
I used the fedora disk and went into rescue mode. I used the skip option which prevented it from mounting any filesystems and went to...

Arch Linux and House Guests.

My sister-in-law and her children are moving in this weekend for an indeterminate amount of time.. There's nothing wrong with that per se, but I can see already that I'm going to need a diversion. Arch Linux looks like just the thing! I'm generally a Slackware fan-boy, but as I've said before, Slackware's stability (even in -current) is sometimes a drawback when I just NEED to fiddle!
