Announcement: ATTENTION ALL BLOG COMMENTERS: Malicious commands

Posted 08-23-2010 at 03:53 PM by Kenny_Strawn (Kenny the one-teen comittee to stamp out Proprietary $uckware)

I have noticed that most LQ members get amused when they talk about shell commands that inflict damage on Linux systems. In my blog, however, THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!! It violates item #4 of my Blog Code of Conduct and I have a strict zero-tolerance policy for such malicious content as the Code of Conduct already states.

Now, for the education of commenters, here are some examples of commands NEVER TO TYPE, even if another member lies and says it's okay.

So I was in the Shops at Mission Viejo today ready to pick up my mother (she has a job at Macy's there) this evening. Okay. My father and sister were trying to kill time by looking in the mall and I had no choice but to go with them. Fine.

We are strolling around the mall, and my father was looking at the various stuff in the mall <yawn>. I liked most of the places that we stopped at, except for one:

So, I've been using Haiku, the free re-implementation and continuance of BeOS R5. From the first time I heard about it I was intrigued, and once I got a look at how dedicated Haiku developers are I knew I'd be giving this OS a try. Not being a developer myself, all I could say about how the project progresses would come directly from the mailing lists. For that reason, I've decided to make an end-user blog instead.

This post is only to inform anybody who's interested as to what...

What a nice 18th birthday present: FinalFreeze for an Ubuntu release

Posted 08-19-2010 at 09:42 PM by Kenny_Strawn (Kenny the one-teen comittee to stamp out Proprietary $uckware)

According to this page, the FinalFreeze/KernelFreeze/NonLanguagePackTranslationDeadline for the Natty Narwhal (Ubuntu 11.04) will be on April 14, 2011 (A.K.A. my 18th birthday).

What's odd is that this release schedule actually came out ***BEFORE*** the GNOME 2.33.x/3.0 release schedule. This usually doesn't happen. But that's beside the topic: Steshenko, now you know how old I am.

Same advice produces the same results

Posted 08-19-2010 at 08:41 PM by SilversleevesX

Read the first reply, then read here:

If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing twice (or more times) and expecting different results, then the question becomes: "Who's the more insane? The person who follows the advice, knowing in advance it probably won't make any difference or work out the way they want it to, or the person who, after...
