Depression sucks, again

Posted 05-02-2010 at 01:53 AM by Mr-Bisquit

I'm taking celexa for it but it will still come on.
Take today, for example. Nothing wrong, really, just a little irritated from normal things. Now, for some reason, I just decided to give up on a project and went about asking to be banned.
It wasn't a gradual I-am-not-doing-something-right-so-I-can-not-take-it-anymore response it was from a hey-can-I-get-help-with-this to a sudden screw-you-screw-me-screw-everything attitude in less than a minute.

Is Linux better for elder machines? My case study.

Posted 04-30-2010 at 03:55 AM by AGer (Void cries or bashing time)

Linux is for elder machines. Naturally, the term "elder" in this truism is to be understood as "less capable", not as "antique". The fact that any machine is less capable when facing a proper task makes things interesting.

Having Athlon 3500+ processor and R690 integrated video, my proper task is the 1080p video. My experience with it suggests that

1. The best player is MPlayer. That is, other options like VLC or KMPlayer (Windows only)...

upgrade to Lucid Lynx

Upgrade to Lynx went smoothly. It looks great. The awful orange is gone . Replaced by Purple. So far everything seems ok. More about my experience of this latest version later.
The only thing that did not work was Gwibber. But today Gwibber works. Hopefully it will also work tomorrow and day after.....
Everything else seems to work and it is faster.

UK General Election

Posted 04-29-2010 at 03:49 PM by rich_c

I can't quite remember how, but I managed to happen upon this article. A pretty specific endorsement for Linux and FOSS from the leader of the (current) opposition!

Geolocate linux?

Posted 04-29-2010 at 12:38 PM by williamfromtexas

How close is the nearest distro to you?

Certain distributions reflect their regional origins, and some regions have their own distributions. Regionalization is a major share of the efforts needed in on-going work of linux.

For many, though, the tool isn't the source of joy as much as the community of fellow users. Imagine - hacking late at night on a small code change. Who stays up with you? Not your spouse, not your colleagues or buddies. It's those faceless masses...
