So this blog is mostly a place for me to keep notes on particularly annoying problems that were solved after a fair bit of pain.

So my current desktop set up has three sound devices. There is the onboard sound card, there is the hdmi output from my NVidia graphics card, and then theres the PCI Xonar DS card I bought recently.

Which is where the problem started.. I wanted to get the sound to work through only through the PCI sound card, but whenever the computer booted,...

Printer Issues

Posted 08-27-2012 at 07:07 PM by aardvark99

After many months of frustration I finally solved a niggling problem with printing.

The number of copies options had been stuck on 2 in Okular and LibreOffice for a long time which I had to keep manually fixing each time I used these products. Couldn't find where the sticky option was. Yesterday I thought to look in the .cups folder and there it was ... copies=2. Edited it to ... copies=1 and the problem has goen away. At least until the next time I set copies to 2 and forget where...

mount scripts

Posted 08-27-2012 at 02:39 PM by ted_chou12

These are scripts that searches for local drives and network shares (cifs). I am putting this up for whoever looking for a ready made script also for my future references:
Code:
#mounts start with f
tbmounted=(f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z)

				mounts=$(mount | grep

Ubuntu Made Easy review Part 1.

Posted 08-27-2012 at 07:48 AM by rich_c

Well, my copy of Ubuntu Made Easy which No Starch Press kindly sent me to review arrived 2 or 3 weeks ago. The book itself is remarkably well put together making it a pleasure to hold and read as well as easy to refer to while working on the 'projects'. No Starch were also kind enough to provide me with a PDF copy which I have shared with a select few people with less (Or different.) Linux experience than myself. So, hopefully future parts of this ongoing review will provide their perspectives...

Crash.

Posted 08-26-2012 at 03:34 PM by peonuser

Computer fell off the desk from pretty high up. It smashed my PalmIIIxe to bits. Kiss it goodbye. The nslu2 was in the same box, but for the time being it still seems to work (so far). have not looked at the computer yet. It was an old p2 I was using as a tftp server. I would preferred to have it broke rather than the palm. Oh well.
