I was thinking about the old game Eliza the therapist, that has been around forever. Might be interesting to update the code with a bit more sophisticated code that used AI. Then of course you have to install sphinx and festival or epeak. If you do all that then you could make a paper mache head using servos to control the mouth and other parts for some interesting fun. Ten times better than the toy on the Craig Fergy show.

I have an old computer and try to install a quick operating system on it (run today with Win98 and some patches from Win98SE for making runnning the USB WLAN adapter).
I installed PuppyLinux, but the net access was too long (ndiswrapper with the AVM Fritz WLAN usb adapter worked fine).
Now I installed Damnsmalllinux as frugal version on the HDD.

Thunar custom actions including "root terminal here" without gksudo

Here's a way to implement Thunar custom actions using rxvt unicode (urxvt) but could be adapted to other terminal emulators. It has been used to provide:
  • Terminal here
  • root terminal here
  • vi
  • vi as root
Optionally it allows the custom action to set background colour and a fullscreen window.

Caveats: the mechanism is "proof of concept" and not widely tested at the time of posting. It is designed for use on a workstation with a single user.

Interesting night

So last night i installed CentOS 5.5.
Installed fine, booted up, spent a few hours trying to set up my dual monitor display to no avail.
With CentOS each time you make a change to the display you have to restart X window system. Which is a pain is the a$$ by the way.
So after a few hours of fiddling with Xorg files, and seeing that CentOS looks a lot like wi98 as far as graphics, i booted back to my fedora and erased what i had just install.
