How do I clean Ubuntu?

Ubuntu software packaging system can accumulate unused packages or temporary files. These temporary files, also called caches, contain package files from all of the packages that you have ever installed. Eventually, this cache can grow quite large. Removing them allows you to reclaim space on your computer's hard drive for storing your documents, music, photographs, or other files.

compiling greatest ffmpeg & using it

First install yasm-1.0.1.tar.gz in usual way.

For libx264 support
Get latest
git clone git://
You get x264 folder . You can compress & save that folder for backup .
Installing involves
cd x264;./configure;make;sudo make install;sudo ldconfig
extract ffmpeg & then run
 cd ffmpeg ;./configure  --enable-avfilter  --enable-avfilter-lavf --enable-vdpau --enable-bzlib

Missing Debian Sound Control

I installed Debian the other day. So far it is working really well for me. I discovered one minor annoyance today that took me a few minutes to figure out and fix.

Right-clicking the volume control icon in the Notification Area brings up a context menu. The first entry is "Mute", the second is "Open Volume Control".

When I tried clicking on the second one, I kept getting an error message "Can't open gnome-volume-control no such file". I...

Does any one know how to make wubi install an iso that is on a cd-rom if you do please tell me?

Alternatively, if some one knows of a free bootloder that can take an image on a cd-rom and place it on your hard drive pleas tell me.

This would be much obliged.

Note the software must work with a screen reader
