Posted 10-26-2012 at 12:01 PM by peonuser

Downloaded and ran CosmoPBX in a virtual machine. Was able to get ekiga to connect to it without a problem.

Mythtv box somehow had a capacitor broke partly off. Desoldered the cap and bought a replacement. Will have to install the new capacitor.

Finally got the raspberry pi. Made a power adapter that would use the power supply from the Nslu2 with a cheap one dollar micro usb adapter from Frys. That worked.

Install debian for raspberry pi. Installed a...

Haskell shell scripting!

Posted 10-25-2012 at 11:19 AM by hydraMax (Bits and Pixels)

Practical shell scripting AND full-fledged Haskell functional programming at the same time!? Is it really possible to have your cake and eat it too!? I'm sweating with excitement at my recent discovery.

Not only is it possible, but there is a well-developed module that allows you to do shell like programming with Haskell, without losing any of the benefits of the language:

Bash quickie: loop N times, without doing math

I thought that the only way to do such type of loop in Bash would require something like "n=$(($n+1))" within the loop, with the loop being conditioned to "n" adding up to whatever you want, such as "until ((n==30)) ; do". But you can actually do "for i in {1..20} ; do <whatever> ; done". That's somewhat similar to Basic's "for i=1 to 20 ; whatever ; next i".

But it won't work with variables for the starting and ending numbers....
