Ask not what Linux can do for you...

Posted 05-20-2010 at 11:27 AM by rich_c

Over the past week or so a few things have come along, like the tone of some forum threads for example, that lead me to wonder if the general public are ready for Linux on the Desktop. (Note, not the other way around!) In fact, Linux on the Desktop is just one part of it. Are people outside of the FOSS community able to understand what the community is about and are they able to interact with it without firmly putting their feet in their mouths and upsetting/angering everyone involved?

Reinstalled GRUB 2 to the MBR

Posted 05-17-2010 at 10:04 AM by ddalley

I'm not sure what happened to make LinuxMint 8 stop working the way it did, but I finally got both installs working again by reinstalling GRUB 2.

Pretty scary stuff to just turn on the computer one morning and not have an OS.

Posted 05-16-2010 at 12:32 PM by Kenny_Strawn (Kenny the one-teen comittee to stamp out Proprietary $uckware)

I have seen posts to LQ that confuse the Terminal with GNOME Shell. They are two totally different things.

Triple Boot goal: OS X, Gentoo Linux, and Windows 7

Posted 05-16-2010 at 09:26 AM by Seph64 (Seph64's Lair)

I am intending to install Linux on this Mac Mini of mine.

Well, actually it's installed. So it's already coinciding with OS X and Windows nicely.

Partitions:

90 or so GB for OSX
23GB for Linux
40GB for Windows

Not a lot of options for a 160GB drive anymore. I might purchase a bigger hard drive later, of course I will also need the proper tools to open the mac up. I saw how it is done.

One of the problems I ran...
