A chance discovery.

For a bit of devilment, I thought I'd head over to bing.com and search for Linux. (Go on give it a go, you know know you want to mess with their heads... ) Well, as it happens I 'discovered' an interesting link. http://linux.co.uk

Remote access to Linux desktop from Windows

Posted 08-01-2010 at 05:56 PM by paulsm4

PROBLEM:
I have a Centos 5.4 VPS - command-line only, no Linux desktop, no GUI.

SOLUTION:
No problem. I just set up VncServer, and I can now remote in to a complete, fully functional Linux desktop from Windows any time!

PROCEDURE:
1. Install X VNC server and dependencies (root):
yum install vnc vnc-server
yum groupinstall xfce

2. Enable per-user login (user "mo"):
vncpasswd
...

GCC: error: incompatible types when returning type ‘double (*)()’ but ‘double’ was expected

Posted 08-01-2010 at 05:06 PM by Kenny_Strawn (Kenny the one-teen comittee to stamp out Proprietary $uckware)

Can anyone please tell me what this error means and why I got it while trying to return the outputs of functions?

I decided to post this question in my blog instead of the programming forum, because another member in that forum always responds to posts about compilation errors with vague, 'RTFM'-like responses. Thankfully, I can use my ignore list to ban Stashenko from this blog. Not so much for the programming forum.

So You Want to Surf Gopherspace

Anyone remember the Gopher protocol? I don't---at least, I don't remember it at its height. I first came across gopher in 1999, but only really started exploring it about five years ago, well after most nodes had been shuttered and their content moved to http. But even in its reduced form, there was a charm about gopher that drew me in, and which has taken root. And so, every so often, I wander through gopherspace, just to see what might be new, or old, or forgotten, or simply to enjoy the peace...
