Rsyslog-4.6.3 .spec

Posted 07-28-2010 at 11:59 PM by unSpawn

Rsyslog is a Syslog replacement. Centos5U5 provides rsyslog-3.22.1-3.el5.i386 but the development branch is at 5.5.6 and the stable release is 4.6.3. Here's a .spec file that will build 4.6.3-1 (this wasn't derived from the 3.22.1 .src.rpm .spec so YMMV(VM) as usual):

Code:
%define debug_packages	%{nil}
%define debug_package %{nil}
%define name rsyslog
%define ver 4.6.3
%define rel 1

Name: %{name}
Summary: Enhanced system logging

speed up your browsing experience

Posted 07-28-2010 at 08:10 AM by ultimate_linux

web page loads as follows
1.when you type in the url in the address bar,resolver,the program in browser sends it to dns server.
2.the dns server looks up the url in its database and returns the corresponding ip address of that url
3.the browser now forms a TCP connection and content transfer takes place.
4.then the browser interprets the content.

the time taking things in this process are dns lookup and content transfer,interpretation.
there is nothing...

robotics stuff

Posted 07-28-2010 at 01:35 AM by peonuser

Built code in freebasic to control stepper motors from the parallel port. Robotics are addictive,

Built a test circuit to mess with stepper motors, but I had a wrong chip. See If I can locate one tomorrow.

My brother gave me a used bare bones computer. Have not decided what to do with it yet. Need to test it to see if it even works.

I love linux.

Once, not so long ago, I actually had a website---but it ran into some trouble: suspensions. It seems I had some stuff that the hosts (which were free, so I can't complain to much---and I'm not so much complaining as providing back story) didn't like (as far as I've been able to determine, they didn't like my how-to for archiving VHS cassettes to DVD), and thus my site kept getting suspended.

It was irritating, but it did get me thinking, for the site also had a several pages of...

Linux Space Efficiency Testimonial

Posted 07-27-2010 at 03:53 AM by William (Dthdealer) (Whaling the FOSS)

Running a mature Ubuntu system, with dozens of games installed ( Including Tremulous, Sauerbraten, Nexuiz and Warsow ), this is my partition usage ( from df -h ) :

Code:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda5              20G  8.2G   11G  44% /
/dev/sda3              89M   64M   21M  76% /boot
/dev/sda7             169G   30G  131G  19% /home
8.2GB contains everything in my installation not including private files or my bootloader.
