Why are text input boxes so small for forums?

Posted 08-30-2010 at 05:50 AM by William (Dthdealer) (Whaling the FOSS)

I hate this.

It does not really matter which forum you go to, even Linux Questions is at fault here.

You go to type a post, and are provided with a pokey[1] small text box to do it in that is smaller than the Microsoft Windows EULA textbox above the 'I agree' button ( and that is small! ). Why? Just why? you're better off writing your post in a text editor such as Leafpad and then copying the text into the box.

Even on what is considered the smallest...

Interesting Parts of the Windows 7 EULA

Posted 08-29-2010 at 01:54 AM by William (Dthdealer) (Whaling the FOSS)

I like to read the Windows 7 EULA, it it hilariously bad for the user in nearly every way, and yet I remain unaffected. It is the same sort of feeling you get when you see signs offering antivirus subscription for only a set period of time and for hundreds of dollars, safe with the thought you will never need such software.

For accuracy reasons, I'm using the Windows 7 Ultimate N English PDF available through the Microsoft website. Also, EULA = End User Licence Agreement

If you want to have a script that would do something if either one of two consequences is true, a simple way to do that would be:

if [ condition 1 ] || [ condition 2 ] ; then
if [ condition 1 ] ; then
consequences for condition 1
if [ condition 2 ] ; then
consequences for condition 2
consequences of either one, but happens only once, not twice
You check if either one is true, when "||"...
