DeskTop Publishing with OO.org's Impress/Presentation

Well, it has taken me 7 months (since I last posted--on migrating from Win XP to Ubuntu 9.10)--but by gum, I think I've got it!

For a couple of months now, I've been doing my computer user group (OMUG or Olympia Microcomputer Users Group) newsletter using Presentation (OO.org 3.1.1) (running Ubuntu). I decided to give it a try because it seems much easier to place things on the page than in Writer. One thing that is missing in Presentation is the function of connecting text boxes...

After thinking GNOME's next development branch was 2.33, I tried to navigate to its page on live.gnome.org. Upon trying to navigate to that page, I got redirected to this:

http://live.gnome.org/TwoPointNinetyone

What?? Just because it's the dev branch for 3.0 does not mean that they need to make such a jump in the development cycle release number. They were going to make 2.31 the dev branch, and I did NOT see any such jump in the release number; they were going to reserve...

When I moved to my new Isp, my static ip machines did not want to play along. I had to update resolv.conf. All is fine now.

Creating a problem and then partially solving it makes people believe competitors have the problem

I asked the staff of one of my local primary schools why they were installing new computers and throwing out the old ( a few years ) ones. It confuses me when their previous units are perfectly fine for the educational needs of primary school students, but yet they decide they need new ones. I was given a few answers:
  • To 'stimulate' the economy
  • The old ones were getting slower
  • Microsoft offered them an educational discount

I live in Australia, and I have never seen a computer that...
