GTK+: Possible code to enable geometric compositing (speculation)

Posted 07-19-2010 at 12:17 AM by Kenny_Strawn (Kenny the one-teen comittee to stamp out Proprietary $uckware)

Here's something for you guys:

Code:
#include <glib.h>
#include <glib/gtypes.h>
#include <gtk/gtk.h>

struct GtkPrism {
    guint32 Left;
    guint32 Top;
    guint32 Rear;

    guint32 Right;
    guint32 Bottom;
    guint32 Front;
}
Instead of just using a rectangle to draw GTK+ widgets, to use a 3D prism would make it a whole lot better, since it would allow...

Playing with DD-WRT

Posted 07-18-2010 at 10:35 PM by damgar

I've always wanted to play with DD-WRT since I became aware of it's existence. For anyone that doesn't know, it's essentially an embedded linux that you load as firmware on consumer routers. It's not compatible with every model, but the older linksys wrt54g's (the blue and black one's with external antennas) work well for the most part from what I can tell. I happened to come across one a few months ago, and every so often I would see some neat tutorial in the LXer forum, but yesterday I saw...

Stability is an illusion

Posted 07-18-2010 at 03:46 PM by Mr-Bisquit

I have depression- as is known- and am emotionally unstable.
the actions of going through an attempted suicide become easier and easier everyday.
Let them watch me die. I want the strength to overcome self-preservation.
Thoughts of suicide, animosity, and depression in the Open Source Community? How can this be?

I want to die and not regret, to have someone watch me destroy myself.
I want to sleep and never wake up.

This isn't playing the...

Posted 07-17-2010 at 09:02 PM by craigevil (craigevil's random words of wisdom)
Updated 08-10-2010 at 05:59 AM by craigevil

First go through the ALSA checklist:
1) add yourself to the 'audio' group (log out and log in again) , as root add username audio, where username is your user's name
2) use alsamixer and unmute channels and raise levels (also try muting some channels & toggle jack sense)

--$ alsamixer <Enter> {You will be able to control the volumes and balance through the keyboard.}

For KDE
Press: Alt+F2
Then type: /usr/bin/kmix {Click 'Run'.}...

Got A New Cooling Fan

Posted 07-17-2010 at 05:03 AM by goldwave

I got a new chipset cooling fan delivered today, and I installed it.
It a 40mm x 40mm x 28mm fan and runs around 7,000rpm.

Normally, without a fan, the chipset temp is between 45 C and 48 C in Summer.
As you can see in the pic below, the fan (fan1) runs at 7219rpm, and the chiset temp is lowered to 40 C (M/B).

It's pretty powerful.
But, a problem is that the fan is...
