"This is my sig, there are many like it. But this one is mine."

Okay, so I've finally figured out that when I post in what could be called a "Newbie's" thread, that they don't seem to notice the URLs in my signature.

So I've gone from this;

--Did you find this post helpful? Don't forget to let me know by clicking yes or no! (Or click the "scales" icon under my name)
--Has a post solved your problem? Make sure to mark the thread as [SOLVED]!
--What do those little green boxes mean? It's the brand-spanking new

Reputation System: How I'm Using it.

Greetingz! This is a rough draft outlining my feelings about the new "Reputation System" here at LQ. This may go through some revision, and I hope to add some (more) links.

Posi-Rep (and/or "Helpful Post?" "Yes")
1) Providing great technical help (especially one-liners)
2) Giving out URLs, RFCs, book references, etc. Anything the OP can use for further research into their problem.
3) Correcting someone's train of thought when what...

Microsoft's Bing runs on Linux?

Posted 09-03-2010 at 11:03 AM by rich_c

Today, I happened upon a couple of comments that implied that Microsoft's Bing search engine actually ran on Linux... The fact of the matter is, it probably doesn't but...

Microsoft have certainly outsourced their cdn function to Akamai who, it would seem, certainly do use Linux and are a major content delivery network provider for a lot of very large companies. So although Bing doesn't actually run on Linux, it clearly relies on it heavily. An interesting state of affairs that...

CIDR to Netmask conversion with Python (convert short netmask to long, dotted format)

When you write scripts dealing with setting up or analyzing network interfaces you will eventually run into the task of converting a netmask from one format into another.

Typically, the setup of an ethernet TCP/IP network interface consists of an IP address, a netmask, and a broadcast address. Unfortunately for you as a novice, the two tools ifconfig and ip show the same (or similar) information in a different format.

$ /sbin/ifconfig

POSTFIX - GMAIL & HOTMAIL ERROR

Posted 09-03-2010 at 12:48 AM by maxshortte1982

Hi,

I am new to Linux and I have recently installed Postfix on my centOS system. When sending e-mails to gmail or hotmail my messages automatically get redirected to junk mail or dont get delivered at all. Does anyone know why this is happening? I am also having issue with receiving e-mails from gmail/hotmail accounts.

I have read on one website that this issue could be cause by my IP address being blacklisted OR could be caused by a dynamic IP. Is this true?...
