USB stick with Ubuntu Live system doesn't boot - why?

Creating an installation stick with Ubuntu seems to be a piece of a cake nowadays. Ubuntu does provide a tool, the "Startup Disk Creator" (System > Administration > Startup Disk Creator) which frees novice Linux users from knowing operating system level details. At least it seems.

I regularly notice, either in my Linux courses or in discussions with other proficient Linux users, that the tool on Ubuntu typically doesn't make sticks boot out-of-the-box. Usually, this...

Huh, football and Sunday afternoons is finally coming to an end. The New England Patriots have once again folded their tent early and gone home. Seems like a habit. Just think, a week ago the local media was treating Coach Belichick like he was a God.
And stuxnet, the worm. Is it true that it is a joint venture between us and Israel..??
True or not, it gives pause to wonder about the type of thinking in this latest piece
of malware.Aside from the politics involved, I'm not surprised...

A Good Double Act

Laurel and Hardy, Abbot and Costello, Morecambe and Wise, and of course: Slackware and Debian. I've done it before, and I'm doing it again. Dual-booting those two on my desktop. In the past, after a month or two, I've usually got fed up with Debian - but this time, it stays...well, maybe.
I was going to put the 64-bit version on, but then thought of trying the 32-bit with the bigmem kernel for a while. When the next Slack is released, then I'll be doing a fresh install and reorganisation...

Here the simple steps for install 'LAMP-server' using "tasksel"in ubuntu 10.10

Open your terminal and follow the following commands.


1. sudo apt-get install tasksel
2. sudo tasksel install lamp-server
3. "set your 'MYSQL Password"
4. sudo gedit /var/www/phpinfo.php (Add the following mini php code in this file)

Reset my brothers old linksys router which does actually run dd-wrt. I needed to test wireless on a laptop I have and check out the Chumby. Ended up having to upgrade the driver on the laptop. fortunately it was just an sudo apt-get install (filename). It connected to the router fine. There is a button on the laptop that acts as a hard switch to disable the wireless if you need to go back to land lines. Used the laptop to change some settings on the router. Fortunately the wireless was partitioned...
