Playing with BtrFs and thinking out loud.

Warning: I'm mainly jotting things down so it may be a bit out of order.

During the install of Slackware 13.37, I figured I would give BtrFs a try and see how it goes. I quickly found out that BtrFs is NOT designed for small partitions. Where it used to be common practice to have something like the following, the same is not true for BtrFs:

Primary Partition
/boot - 100M - ext3

Luks encrypted LVM
/ - 1G - btrfs

Probably you've already been in this situation or will be sometime in your life. You want to get your digital life organized. No redundancies, just one solution to every problem.

That's what I'm in the process of doing and here's a list of the things I want to achieve:
  • Not forget any birthday any more
  • Have a central place for storage of all contact information
  • Be able to print out said contact information
  • Take advantage of the services in the cloud without losing that

Posted 04-28-2011 at 10:44 PM by megasaputra

When I want to download Incognito, the website is not trust. It is about the certificate. Firefox detect that the website doesn't own trust certificate. So, Firefox suggest to not browse this website. But, I just want to try this linux distro.

HAL-PC Board of Directors Election, 2011

Posted 04-28-2011 at 04:21 PM by archtoad6

As it was 2 years ago, I am running for re-election. I am in the midst of writing my candidate's statement, which is due today. I realized that I may have more to say during the campaign "season", so I am reserving this spot for additional information.

openSUSE for real!

Posted 04-28-2011 at 03:59 PM by rich_c

Further to my post about playing with openSUSE in Virtualbox, I've finally got a new HDD and installed properly on my test machine. (Compaq iPaq desktop 1GHz, 512mb RAM with a 120 GB HDD) I hit a couple of strange ones during install, like my swap partition wasn't automatically added to fstab and there's no provision to choose a host name but apart from that it was an easy install. My 11.3 LXDE system boots damn quick and runs pretty smooth too. I'm looking forward to upgrading to 11.4 and then...
