A much faster "du" alternative for the current folder (non-recursive)

Code:
find . -maxdepth 1 -printf %k"000\n" | awk '{ sum += $1 } END { print sum }' | numfmt --from=auto --to=iec-i
I was annoyed with the fact that "du", with whatever parameters I tried to get only the usage for the files on the root of the current folder (i. e., non-recursive), took ages to give the result, while the value comes comparatively instantaneously when you're browsing the folders on a file manager like Konqueror or some other, with that indication. I don't...

Run your Slackware 64 bit system with the latest stable kernel – 3.15.0!

Posted 06-16-2014 at 01:02 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware 12.0 – 14.1 and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk, SlackEX and Exton|Defender. The kernel is compiled exactly the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 3.15.0-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 3.15 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org. Released (20140608).

Feature OVERVIEW for the Linux 3.15 kernel

Compromises leaving .IptabLes and .IptabLex binaries (with or without dot) in /, /boot, /etc and or /usr seem to be quite common:

RPM-repackaging google-earth-stable_current for Fedora

Posted 06-14-2014 at 04:34 AM by unSpawn

Code:
Transaction check error:
file /usr/bin from install of google-earth-stable conflicts with file from package filesystem
While the above error and its fixes are documented well enough across the 'net I'm listing my own spec for future reference. You should probably not want to use this but if you do just save below code as "google-earth-stable.spec" and run it as 'rpmbuild -bb google-earth-stable.spec;'.

Code:
%define __os_install_post /usr/lib/rpm/brp-compress
