I started out in 1986 with a Mac, went to Windows in the early 90s, and finally on to Linux in 2006 (I think). My brother talked me into trying it and I'll never go back.

After reading about lots of distros I finally settled on Fedora Core 6. Now I'm up to Fedora 13. I installed Fedora 14, but had a problem finding the repositories. So I went back to F13. I should have tried harder to figure out why the repo problem, but I like F13 so took the easy way out.

An email has just arrived to tell me that I have a blog! Goodness, I didn't know I was so blessed. When my wife finds out, she'll kill me.

Of course I can't think of anything very special to say. I really like Linux. I use Windows 7, MacOS-X and Linux (Ubuntu 10.10) every day. I like them all in their own ways. I won't discuss my dislikes.

Bit yet again by GRUB

I've been totally satisfied with running Ubuntu via WUBI ... except for Grub upgrades. I did know to avoid them, but this last one seemed to imply that it was a fix for the problem, rather than yet another manifestation of it.

For those who haven't seen it, upgrading Grub (or is it just Grub-pc?) blows up your ability to boot to Linux. My solution was to reinstall Ubuntu (!), after copying my root.disk off to a separate file. Then, with a fresh, bootable OS, I mounted the old root.disk...
