First Post - Doom 3 & Debian

I got pretty wound up recently, trying to get Doom 3 working. I've recently bought a new Dell with a 4-core Phenom 830, 4 gig RAM,1 Gb ATI 5450 Video. I'm very pleased with it(I could only afford it 'cos it was on tick). After trying all the other mainstream distros I've settled with Debian - testing usually. apt alone is enough, but also I love many other things about Debian - their ethical stance for one. So I've installed Wheezy for AMD64 - it goes like a rocket.
I ran the doom3-linux-1.3.1.1304.x86.run...

I want to rant, but can't

Posted 04-02-2011 at 03:27 PM by MrCode

I just got done writing one of those "everything is predetermined/life is meaningless" posts...why isn't it up here, then? Because I know that nobody who even visits the LQ blog section regularly wants to see it anymore. I save them locally to my hard disk, though, just for some kind of weird posterity.

I guess the point is taken: if I want help with those issues, I'm gonna need to seek it from someplace other than the 'net...it's just that I've become way too...

Freedom Box?

Posted 03-31-2011 at 11:23 AM by williamfromtexas

What's in a name?

I'll admit, I think the name 'Freedom Box' is a bit cheesy. It reminds me too much of the 'Freedom Fries' reaction in the US a few years ago to some news media quibble between the US and France. It's also one of those names that is too descriptive to be cool. Facebook was famously once known as 'The' Facebook.

The problem now is that as distributed as the web is, major platforms such as The Facebook hold on to people's information for them in exchange...
