High CPU usage + underclock vs. low CPU + normal/high clock

This is just a question rather than a typical blog post. I know blogs aren't really supposed to be used for that, but I think it's justifiable since it's not that important or urgent, even though it has some practical applications. So I'm not "stealing" attention from other users with more pressing matters over there.

The question is basically "what gets more work done":

a) higher CPU usage per process (limiting less or not limiting the usage at...

Made the move to Linux - a kind of personal intro

Posted 11-13-2011 at 12:15 AM by forbinproject

About a month ago, I tried Linux for the first time on this system with a dual-boot between Vista and Ubuntu (Vista came with the computer). After about a month of working with a dual-boot system, for whatever reason, the Vista partition was not as stable as it could have been; that is, there was some sort of new winsock error that forced a very long boot to happen. I was in the midst of backing up files, so it took me a little longer to make the full switch. The re-install I had made of Vista...

Howto install selected Debian packages from other releases (apt-pinning)

Posted 11-11-2011 at 07:44 AM by bittner (Notes on Linux)

Mixing releases can be necessary when you need a more up-to-date version of a software in a system running on package management and not (yet) providing later package versions.

For example, we need the latest git on your Debian Lenny system, because you updated your Eclipse plugins, and now the git integration refuses to work with your old client. Shoot! Let's check what to do to fix this...

Things to do
  1. Edit /etc/apt/sources.list (or create/edit a file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/

Lossless discussion revisited

I did a test. Ripped 320 Kbps CBR MP3s of a few of my favorite songs and then reripped lossless versions. Could tell distinct differences between the two in every song (some more obvious than others).

Maybe I have uber-sensitive ears? Not ruling out placebo, but I've heard these songs so many times... Maybe I'm crazy.
