I have made two new versions of ExTiX 15.2. I call them ExTiX 15.2 LXQt Live DVD respectively ExTiX 15.2 KDE Live DVD

ExTiX Linux Live DVD’s 64 bit are based on Debian Jessie/Ubuntu 15.04. The original system includes the Desktop Environment Unity (Ubuntu). After removing Unity I have installed LXQt 0.9.0 (in ExTiX 15.2, build 150417) and KDE 4.14.6 together with KDE Frameworks 5.9.0 in an extra version also of 150417. LXQt is the Qt port and the upcoming...

Experiences with KVM switches

Posted 04-17-2015 at 12:16 PM by flshope

I have four computers at the moment sharing one keyboard, video, and mouse using a KVM switch ("KVM"= Keyboard Video Mouse). As my machine count has grown over the years, I have acquired new switches to accommodate additional machines and new port requirements (PS2 vs USB).

My current KVM switch is an IOGEAR GCS1724 4-port box-type. Of the five KVM switches I have used since 2003, my current IOGEAR GCS1724 is by far the one I would recommend (depending on machine requirements)....

Run Android-x86 from a USB stick with persistence!

Posted 04-16-2015 at 04:40 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)
Updated 04-16-2015 at 06:53 AM by exton (More info)

Yesterday I discovered that "my" Android-x86 systems can be installed to a USB stick with persistence. I.e. all system changes are saved directly on the stick.

What is it good for?
Well, you dont have to touch your hard drive. Installing Android-x86 this way wont effect your ordinary boot loader. And as I say above: All system changes are persistent!

They stole the parts off of my pinchiiiii lawnmower! Cabrones.

Went out to get my lawnmower that I leave outside but usually behind a 6 foot metal fence surrounding my whole property. But I slipped up and left it outside the fence for one night. Low and behold. I grab it not really paying attention and roll it back into the fenced area.

When I go to start it later on. I then notice that my throttle linkage and other parts have been stripped of the mower.

Instead of going into a rage. Which is easy for me and usually the 1st response....

Virus on Linux

Posted 04-15-2015 at 09:07 AM by Upendra Pratap Singh

One of the most effective techniques that I have come across while using Ubuntu for some 1 year or so is
that we must avoid log in as super user as far as possible.

This mode is meant only when everything is flawless in terms of data availability and its subsequent processing.

Also if one is not logged in as super user, then the effect of virus program remains localized to the current file system only.
