Pyplate CMS now works with Nginx

Posted 04-04-2014 at 12:56 PM by Pyplate

Pyplate.com has been on line for almost a week now, and I've had a good response. Several people have used the beta version of Pyplate to build simple web sites. One or two installation issues have come up, so I've updated the installation script.

I've also written a new installation script for anyone who wants to use Pyplate with Nginx. See www.pyplate.com/install-pyplate for more information. I've only published this today, so I'm still looking for beta testers.

Exton|Defender mga (Mageia) – 32 bit – build 140403

Posted 04-03-2014 at 04:04 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

My third version of Exton|Defender is a remaster of Mageia 4, released 140201. Mageia has been the third most popular Linux system in the world for LOGOsome time now (according to Distrowatch.com).

My changes of Mageia 4
I have removed the KDE Desktop environment and installed LXDE instead. KDE is a bit slow when running Mageia live. (I.e. from CD/USB). Furthermore I have installed the following rescue and repairing tools: NTFS-3g, GParted 0.16.2, PartImage 0.6.9, Sfdisk (util-linux-ng...

XML - beautifying

You want to make your XML more readable
You have just extracted an XML from a source and it is all un-indented and so not very readable. That happens in my workplace where a single XML can be many MBs in size.

Using xmllint
xmllint --format <your_existing_xml_file_name> > new_xml_file_name

If you do not have xmllint installed, you have the perl method. This is slower, but works the same. This is not my code but see the author info. Works good.

New Computer Ubunting Away

Posted 04-01-2014 at 08:50 PM by zaivala

A friend of mine sent me a Dell Optiplex 740, complete with box only and no hard drive, only 1 Gb RAM. I happened to have two sticks of RAM in my dead HP which fit the bill, and an old hard drive which never too a liking to Windows XP. Turns out I was running Ubuntu 10.04 on it, in 64-bit flavor. Well, that works for me. I turned the computer on and it ran. That's all I wanted. I upgraded to the latest LTS of Ubuntu.

I have two problems. One is that it boots up with sound muted. I...

Pyplate - a mini Wordpress written in Python now available for beta testing

Posted 03-30-2014 at 07:44 AM by Pyplate
Tags cms, python

I finally released a beta version of my Python CMS. You can check it out at www.pyplate.com. It's powered by an SQLite database, and it supports some useful features like page caching, SEO friendly URLs, a sitemap and RSS feed. The UI is simple, and easy to use.

I've tested Pyplate on a Raspberry Pi and a PC with Apache. I'll be doing testing with Nginx shortly.

I've set up a Pyplate forum at http://www.pyplate.com/forum/index.php where you can ask questions.
