minimalism++?

Posted 01-05-2011 at 11:46 AM by rocket357 (Musings on technology, philosophy, and life in the corporate world)

Years ago I discovered fluxbox and gave it a try. Until that point, I was a pretty devote KDE user. Fluxbox amazed me with how lightweight yet *powerful* and *configurable* it was. I had a FreeBSD/fluxbox screenshot on putfile.com that got more hits than virtually any other desktop environment I'd posted there. It's fast, light, and given the time and effort to tweak it just right, it's damned pretty, too. I entered into this new concept of minimalism...getting the same work done with half...

Mypaint-0.5.0 .spec

Posted 01-05-2011 at 07:41 AM by unSpawn

Mypaint is a open-source graphics application for use with a tablet. It kind of looks like Fractal Design Painter must have looked at alpha 0.1 stage. Nonetheless worth a try building a package. Here's a spec built, tested and installed on Centos 5.5 Intel. Note it doesn't build for x86_64 as I have none:
Code:
%define debug_packages  %{nil}
%define debug_package %{nil}
%define name mypaint
%define ver 0.5.0
%define rel 1
Name: %{name}
Summary:

Great new year..

Posted 01-03-2011 at 04:52 PM by stefragre

Just a short post today. A wink and a nod to Jeremy and his holiday spirit. Great to enjoy such a resource that LQ provides us. I'm something of a 'distro junkie' known to change and try out new or newer OS's at a rapid pace. So much of what I post here will be related in that sense..
For instance, is it all Ubuntu out there.. Every time I check out the Distrowatch
pages there's a 'new variant' of that great distro listed. The only one I found
to really be worth while is Mint.....

Oh Google how I <3 you ... and apparently you <3 me back. I just got my free Logitech Revue, compliments of the Google Developers contest. It couldn't have come at a more perfect time. I am in the midst of moving. While moving I dropped a huge box of technical books on my laptop and that sucker is fried like a meal at a truck stop. Ok, no worries I have a server, I can plug a monitor into and build a GUI ... plugged it in ... nothing. Changed the power supply ... nothing. Now both computers...

18 Days Of Troubleshooting

Posted 01-03-2011 at 04:50 AM by mufy (From A System Admin's Desk)

I never thought I'd be blogging on a technical website. But here I am, taking that new step towards a change this new year.

I'd not call what follows a purely technical account, but is definitely related to my work and my work is definitely technical.

The last 18 days I was actively pursuing a small problem that surfaced at work. Normally, it is something that people (including me) would brush over considering it not worth spending time on. After all, who would want...
