Ubuntu disaster (blank screen after software update), Debian recovery

A few weeks ago, I did a routine Ubuntu software update. When I rebooted after the update, all I got was a blank screen.

Actually, it was just my backup computer, a 2003 Pogo Linux desktop (http://www.pogolinux.com/) whose dated hardware is still working fine. The machine -- Pogo2003 -- was recently updated to Ubuntu 14.04, which caused me some initial display anomalies because Ubuntu dropped the Nvidia display driver I was using (Nvidia-96). The display was pretty messed up but not...

A 486 laptop running floppy based Pitux linux connected via rs232 to a Pogoplug v2 running Arch linux. Knew I would find a use for that old laptop yet.

Microsoft below the surface.

Microsoft Surface is just another touchpad. Why not get a generic touch pad for a fraction of the cost that will virtually do the same thing.

nftables series - part 1 - baby steps

Nftables introduction

I assume a kernel >=3.18 and nft >= 0.4.

I decided to try out nftables, the would-be iptables successor on my home router/server PC.
As a basic guide I used this guide and the pretty good basic documentation on wiki.nftables.org.

Nft comes with a completely empty ruleset. Meaning no predefined tables, chains or rules.
You as a user create tables, populate those with chains (which hook into kernel netfilter hooks)...
