A Wubi issue fixed!

Posted 05-02-2011 at 03:58 AM by rich_c

A colleague asked me to have a look at a laptop he’d installed Mint on using Wubi. He was getting an error
Code:
Try (hd0,0): NTFS5 no wubildr
which was delaying booting into Mint by a minute or two. After much Googling, the solution wasn’t immediately obvious. So, I thought I’d blog it here!

In the end, what the solution turned out to be was pretty trivially simple. I located wubildr and wubildr.mbr on the C: drive (/host with Mint running.) and copied them to the ‘hidden’ partition...

Wish to try Ubuntu

Posted 05-02-2011 at 01:50 AM by megasaputra

I read in the website, ubuntu had released new version. So, I want to try this linux distro. In distrowatch.com, ubuntu is the most popular in 6 month later. May be, it is so easy to operate although operator is beginner. I have ever tried it when it was in version 10 or 9. And my computer froze. I couldn't do anything. So, I change to opensuse. I have tried sabily 10, the varian of ubuntu. My computer did't freeze. May be, in new version, ubuntu doesn't freeze my computer.

It all depends on your needs. The reason there are so many distros is because each tries to accommodate the needs of different groups of users.

I like Kubuntu for my personal desktop system, but there are many others worth considering. Try some of these places to help you choose.

Found several rc cars at Goodwill for two and three dollars each. No controllers though. The tonka toy rc cars were dismembered for the power train to be used for my pc based robot. Have all the parts, it now just a matter of putting it all together.

Put a couple of basic recipes for my daughter on www.instructables.com.

Bought an adult bike for five dollars from Goodwill. Needs lots of work... It will become everything from transportation to an energy generation...

Xubuntu 11.04 and contact management (2)

Today I'm following up on my post from yesterday. So far, I have been unable to see any advantage of a standalone contact management client, such as Contacts, Rubrica and KAddressBook. The latter would be the right thing to use in a KDE-environment. Of course, if you click on an e-mail address within one of these address books, you will fire up your primary mail client. But the idea is to be able to use the addresses from within the mail client.

My mail client of choice being Thunderbird,...
