How hard could it be? A login manager in BASH

Posted 07-11-2011 at 09:34 PM by William (Dthdealer) (Whaling the FOSS)

As I have previously elaborated, I hat the Gnome Login Manager. To summarise: it is bulky and slow.

I am currently using SLim as my login manager, for it is fast and very customisable. It however lacks a few features I want:
  1. Render of the date and time
  2. An easy way to receive a list of configured commands to for example, turn the computer off ( from now written as 'power commands' )
  3. UI elements to allow the user to turn the computer off without having to first login

How to spot a real journalist.

Posted 07-11-2011 at 12:50 PM by Dubious Dave

I was starting to wonder if there are any real journalists left anymore and started to compile a list of real journalist qualities or what I think should be qualities. How far off we are these days.

Real journalists....

1) don't refer to themselves.
2) don't use absolutes.
3) don't provide their own adjectives.
4) are knowledgeable about a subject, but the reader can't tell.
5) are disliked by their subjects and their subject's peers....

terminal won't launch in kde

Tags kde rhel5

I'm running KDE 3.5 on a RHEL 5.5 32bit box and about a week ago I lost the ability to lauch a terminal window.

I have tried many things: log out and back in, move the ~/.kde to a ~/.old_kde, various ways to launch a terminal window, etc. If I log onto another system, I get the same thing. I would figure it's a profile thing, but if I have kde create a new profile it should go away. Gnome is unaffected.
