AndEX (Android-x86) Lollipop 5.0.2 with Google Play Store and other GAPPS – now (almost) error-free

Posted 05-05-2015 at 12:00 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

NEWS 150505 about AndEX – THE ULTIMATE EDITION
My new build of Android-x86 Lollipop 5.0.2 has GAPPS pre-installed. I.e. Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Google+, Maps, YouTube and more apps. The ISO is called android-x86-5.0.2-lollipop-GAPPS-exton-782mb-150505.iso. I call it The Ultimate Edition because AndEX 150505 is (almost) error-free. I finally managed to install Google Play Services, which is needed for Google Play Store to run. You shall always use Google Play Store in AndEX...

64-bit utilities (includes mc2-64 bit)

Posted 05-03-2015 at 06:00 PM by rainbowsally
Updated 05-04-2015 at 02:35 PM by rainbowsally (Uninstaller fixed and uploaded, mc2 build bugs fixed)

We'd better tool up. The old mc2 was for 32-bits. There are a few bugs in it but it should work for those needing 32 bit compilation on a 64 bit machine.

[Note: May 4, Found installer bugs in the mc2 src d/load. Path to panic version of mc2 was added so the stuff could update before being installed and pkg-config string replaces individual includes and libs now. Sorry about that. Should work now.]

An Experiment: From C Definitions To Templates

This is a tangent, but a forgivable one, no?

Today's mind-blowing Mad Computer Science features:
  • An experiment morphing a regular old C style set of functions into a set of C++ templates.
  • We rename a literal parameter type to a template parameter T and voila!
  • This will help demystify the horrible noise in the messy STL templates by making a simple transition from main_1 to main_2, in which error messages from the compiler

Anomalous KVM event: messed up screen colors

Posted 05-02-2015 at 11:01 AM by flshope

This morning when I booted up my primary machine and started Libre Office Calc, which I use for my To-Do List, I saw that all of the colors had been significantly changed. For example, the greens and yellows were almost the same and were almost fluorescent in flavor. All of the colors had a different tint. Most solid lines in the spreadsheet display seemed to have dark shadows. I didn't check any other display applications, like the Image Viewer.

I did notice just after initial power...

Dual-boot Windows & Linux?

Posted 05-01-2015 at 10:53 AM by beachboy2

**Warning

Before attempting to dual-boot Linux on an existing Windows computer it is essential to backup all personal data to an external drive.

There are two main reasons why people may wish to dual-boot Windows and Linux:

1.) They are familiar with Windows and are perhaps interested in replacing it with Linux. They may be reluctant to ditch Windows completely, in case they do not get along with Linux 100% and so decide to keep a foot in both camps....
