Run your Slackware 64 bit system with the latest kernel – 3.14!

Posted 04-08-2014 at 11:50 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware 12.0 – 14.1 and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk, SlackEX and Exton|Defender. The kernel is compiled exactly the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 3.14-x86_64-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 3.14 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org. Released (20140331).

A short story of (En)Lightening KDE SC 4 Desktop

This is my personal experience with KDE SC 4 (specifically 4.12) on Arch Linux.
I have been using KDE SC 4 for few days and on startup, my RAM usage were ~600 MB (Nepomuk disabled, but akonadi server running). Then one day there was thunderstorm outside, there began raining, and suddenly with a flash of lightening a change came into my mind. I opened KDE SystemSettings, then go to Default Applications-> Window Manager and...

Pyplate CMS now works with Nginx

Posted 04-04-2014 at 11:56 AM by Pyplate

Pyplate.com has been on line for almost a week now, and I've had a good response. Several people have used the beta version of Pyplate to build simple web sites. One or two installation issues have come up, so I've updated the installation script.

I've also written a new installation script for anyone who wants to use Pyplate with Nginx. See www.pyplate.com/install-pyplate for more information. I've only published this today, so I'm still looking for beta testers.

Exton|Defender mga (Mageia) – 32 bit – build 140403

Posted 04-03-2014 at 03:04 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

My third version of Exton|Defender is a remaster of Mageia 4, released 140201. Mageia has been the third most popular Linux system in the world for LOGOsome time now (according to Distrowatch.com).

My changes of Mageia 4
I have removed the KDE Desktop environment and installed LXDE instead. KDE is a bit slow when running Mageia live. (I.e. from CD/USB). Furthermore I have installed the following rescue and repairing tools: NTFS-3g, GParted 0.16.2, PartImage 0.6.9, Sfdisk (util-linux-ng...
