New Master...

Posted 09-07-2011 at 01:07 PM by Thor_2.0

I'm getting a dark feeling...I may have to remaster the original CD.

Installing GNU tar, because the Busybox tar does'nt always work, depends on...dependencies. These need to come first.

The plan is to set everything up and master whatever result is there to a CD. In the same run, I could set up the /etc/resolv.conf TTYLinux does not have. And append to the rc.conf to get networking set up in one clean swoop...

But, as this could take a while, I decided...

My N900. (Bricked!)

Posted 09-07-2011 at 07:54 AM by rich_c

Oops! I was messing with my N900, installing the power kernel and doing a spot of light overclocking. This had the effect of breaking the fcam camera drivers. I tried to fix that by installing the latest drivers from the development repositories. This pulled in the very latest power kernel which seems to have resulted in a reboot loop situation. :-( I'm hoping that a kernel only reflash will put it all back to normal...

Back after a long break

Posted 09-07-2011 at 04:29 AM by indeliblestamp

I'm slightly ashamed of the fact that I haven't posted to LQ for nearly 2 years. I have happy memories of this site.. I'm a lurker nearly everywhere else on the web, but this is one of the only places where I actually used to contribute something.
I've had a slightly addictive spell with gaming this past year, but I've shaken it off and I'm back to Linux now

Simulate -print0 with ls

Code:
find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 somecommand
The only problem I had with that was it ran through all sub-directories as well. Then I remembered the -m switch for ls and decided to depend on my good old friend sed.

Code:
ls -m | sed 's/, /\x0/g' | xargs -0 somecommand
Though I guess it would be better to do it...

Installing the Graphical Window System (X.org-X11) and the Default Desktop Environment on CentOS 6

Installing the Graphical Window System (X.org-X11) and the Default Desktop Environment on CentOS 6

Performing the default "Minimal" install of CentOS 6 does not install the graphical subsystem (the X.org server) and the desktop environment (e.g. GNOME or KDE). Such OS install is nice for building an optimal system from scratch, setting up a headless server (no monitor, keyboard and mouse) and other purposes; but for one reason or another, you may still require a graphical...
