Block outgoing port scans

Posted 09-29-2011 at 04:58 AM by senthil1186

Hi,

There are many users in a webserver I am working with, and somebody running IP scanner to other IPs,I have tried several methods to block portscans from the webserver, especially tcp scans. Even I tried to trace the file doing IP scan to several IP ranges but no joy. So If anyone have any idea about how to block ip scans from my server to other IPs Please help me.

Note:
I tried configuring psad and Iptables to block outgoing portscans but not effective....

Saved from post: Getting Broadcom STA working for non-firmware wireless adapters

Posted 09-28-2011 at 10:12 PM by ReaperX7

I recommend using the SlackBuild script to install this driver to a manageable directory.

There are several open source drivers that are used to drive Broadcom 802.11 chips such as b43 and ssb. They will conflict with this driver and need to be uninstalled before this driver can be installed. Any previous revisions of the wl driver also need to be removed.

The ssb driver must be removed (by hand or script) before wl is loaded. The wl driver will not function

Network usage on a single device and log diving

I wanted to know the received network usage on a device in kB so this one liner was produced for the desired result.
Code:
while true; do y=`ifconfig eth0 | grep RX\ bytes| sed -e 's/.*bytes\://' -e 's/\ .*//'`; sleep 1; x=`ifconfig eth0 | grep RX\ bytes| sed -e 's/.*bytes\://' -e 's/\ .*//'`; echo $(((x-y)/1024)); done
Press Ctrl+C to stop analyzing the network traffic on that device.

Here's another one liner of me looking through multiple log locations.

"File exists" - yeah duh...

Posted 09-27-2011 at 03:29 AM by Thor_2.0

Okay, so, using the prefix did'nt really work for binutils...upon the install, the installer comes back with "file exists", yea sure...

I tried to move the make to ram (in the ramfs) but the unpack sent the box into the mud...

Gave up for the day, got other stuff to fry now...

Looking for the way in...

Hmm, it's been some time since last post, all because I dont really know what to configure/make/install first. I went for binutils because that's where LFS kicks off, but get compile errors...

nothing to do for all

...fair enough...maybe I did'nt use the right version. I used 2.14 for this. At the time of writing, the configure is working for 2.21.1 and I'm not in a positive mood about this. The thing is that the configure does end nicely, leaving a makefile behind...
