Allright, a blog!

Posted 03-01-2012 at 11:42 AM by gwmorris

Well, I just couldn't resist. I had to at least check it out and see what there was to offer. So far, looks good. We'll see how it goes from here.

I'm NOT a newbie, and have been using Linux for over 10 years, back when RedHat was still free (and worked quite well on my machines!). That's the only drawback, I really did like RedHat, and Fedora is OK most of the time, but it tends to give me a hard time once in a while. for whom?

Posted 03-01-2012 at 11:39 AM by hplc

Show line numbers in VI - Ubuntu Linux/Mac OS X

Posted 03-01-2012 at 11:02 AM by reverend27

From within VI

:set number

To make this behaviour the default:

user@machine:~$ cd ~
user@machine:~$ touch .exrc
user@machiner:~$ vi .exrc

Add the following line to the file:
set number

user@machine:~$ . .exrc
user@machine:~$ vi someTextFile.txt

Basically, if the file .exrc does not exist in your home directory create it.
Open .exrc for editing.
Add the line (w/o quotes)...
