f2c (with makefiles) and xfoil (that converges correctly in VISC mode).

For advanced programmers or folks that don't have 500 bucks for an air foil simulator/analyzer.

Features:
  • Bug fix(es) for f2c and xfoil retro apps.
  • Example of how to f2c when INC files mix data and declarations.
  • Example of a make system that builds its own uninstaller.

Rotating MySQL server log files

Posted 03-09-2012 at 06:09 PM by anomie

This may seem like an inconsequential, overly specific topic, but I'm posting here because - following a couple 'net searches - I observed a dearth of helpful information on MySQL server log file rotation. All the resources I found on the topic essentially said:
  • Use logrotate(8) -- 95% of the hits I found; or
  • Use "some_contrived_steps, not explained well" -- the other 5%

So I am sharing my own contrived steps here. There's nothing wrong with logrotate(8), in particular, but...

Sunflower or Sunflower-fm is a filemanager which I just recently submitted a video on. I was contacted by one of the developers. Who let me know that many improvements had come along since then. So, here is a fresh screencast of the latest offering of Sunflower-fm, version 0.1a-40.

Installing VMware Player on Slackware based Linux.

Posted 03-09-2012 at 02:45 AM by stretchedthin

Seems there are a couple tricks to installing VMware on a Slackware based system. The question was raised on the forum by a member who was stuck and it needed an answer. So I downloaded from "https://www.vmware.com/tryvmware/", ran into a wierd problem with the installer just aborting and not giving much in the way of clues, as to why. Some google-fu saved the day and this is how it is done.

Uploaded a video to youtube with all the details.

Hi.

I've been busy. Very busy.

I managed to find time to boot up my Ultra5 the other day. It complained that the clock was wrong...apparently someone turned the clock forward 118 days. Sigh...in all truth, the sparc was in storage for 115+ days, and since I finally got settled into an apartment in San Antonio, I've had time to set things back up. The Ultra5 now has a friend...an Ultra2 that was given to me by a coworker at Rackspace. He never used it much, and...
