TagFS Alpha 1

Posted 04-12-2012 at 11:04 PM by 2ck

(X-post from my blogspot)
My first release of TagFS, a filesystem based on tags instead of directories, is out: https://github.com/mwatts15/TagFS

You still can't make your own tags intuitively (heh.), but the generate_testdb.pl script lets you demo it.

Also. If anyone knows a good place to announce their projects or request feedback, please comment.

Thanks.

Pseudo-template noob hack that may apply for several situations

Posted 04-12-2012 at 04:10 PM by the dsc (linux-related notes)
Updated 04-12-2012 at 04:14 PM by the dsc

There's a painting software, "mypaint", which is very nice, but it does not support templates, at least not yet.

I've created a template (just a "blank" file with the correct resolution and whatnot) on GIMP, saved it as "ora", but instead of opening this file manually every time, and remembering to save it with a new name in order to not overwrite the template, I came up with a script that will create a new name automatically, with no risk of overwriting...

Got banned from the ubuntu forums

First time I got banned from any forum, that's a historical moment!

I started a thread questioning whether the common forum practice of closing old threads when they're bumped, soliciting the users to create new ones, is really a good idea. I think it's not, that by not doing it the threads will be richer, containing more information, instead of being scattered around many topics all over the years.

Anyway, I referred to moderators who do that (not anyone in specific...

Well, here for my first post to my blog on LQ, I am going to review (in brief) what I consider to be one of the best Linux Distros that I have tested to date. And I have tested many of them from recent history.

Aptosid "ponos"

When I first came across this distribution, I will admit it looked sharp and desktop graphics probably grabbed me subconsiciously. Upon downloading the smaller KDE mini version, I soon found myself wanting to see the XFCE and finally the...

Browsers still re-fetch pages when using back button

Posted 04-11-2012 at 11:42 AM by Skaperen

Browsers these days are still trying to re-fetch data when I press the infamous "back button". I think this was always a dumb idea.

No doubt that is the cause for many cases of web site double ordering. Someone backs up so they can print out the results of a previous page where they committed their order, and it causes the data to POST again, which places another order. Now days, for POST, you get a pop-up that says the browser needs to re-post the data.
