lqMiniTerm (version 2)

  • A new version of the lqMiniTerm (introduced in the horrible sockets experiments). :-) (If you missed those, count yourself lucky. ;-) )

Unfortunately, for the GUI stuff the file sets are getting rather large. It's only 12K as a gzipped tar but uncompressed it's big enough to make the blog choke, even as an sfxz compressed self extractor.

But it's worth taking a peek at this because there are a few features in it that work (that's important... that it works,...

How to kill those Zombies

When a process has ended, signals are emitted to it's parent to indicate that the process is done. This does not delete the process however, information about the process remains with the system until such time as the parent checks that signal. The process becomes a zombie until the exit signal is checked.

The reason for this is closure.

Rather than have that process go away and never give an understanding as to why it went away, it stays as a zombie so that the parent...

Raspberry Pi web server

I signed up to LQ a few days ago. I'm going to use this blog to document progress with my various projects.

I'm about a third of the way through writing a CMS in Python. The front end works quite well. It has built-in caching support and some SEO friendly features like meta page descriptions and tags. I've started on the back end, and I have a lot of work to do on it.

Headcrab, and $NEWJOB

I haven't had time or energy to do much lately, because I started a new job. The first week or so will keep me tired and relatively inactive on my personal projects.

On the other hand, I may be allocating some hours to Headcrab development. Mutt is having a hell of a time with my new employer's IMAPS server. It keeps getting TLS packets with "wrong length" and falling into a craptastic state, requiring me to periodically quit mutt and restart it.
