ZACL Changes Afoot

Posted 07-17-2013 at 07:52 PM by ttk (Unpopular Positions: One Geek's Take)

Lately, when working on Zacl (Zacl's A Concurrency Language), I've been trying to implement a parser for the language with Lemon.

I've despised lex and yacc (and their successors, flex and bison) since 1988, and most of the other compiler-compilers out there looked to me like remakes of lex and yacc, using different implementation languages and different syntactic sugar. But not Lemon -- Lemon is different. It inverts the relationship between the lexer and the parser, and uses nice-looking...

Better days coming hopefully.

Started working with some Arduino circuits. Digital, analog and pwm. Built the tv out interface, but it does not work with ethernet ugh. Had a real nice project planned. in any case I was able to do web page scraping. Installed the ide for Arduino on the laptop.

Changed the root password on the Beagleboard.

Already had motion working on the RPi. The RPI basically only uses digital. Might experiment with r2r before getting some adc and dac chips.

Feet in the Fire

Posted 07-15-2013 at 02:16 PM by mosiac

I didn't even realize that this site had a blog so I thought I'd get started and post something. I'm a Linux / Windows / VMware admin who got thrown into the mix instead of gently let down into it (something I'm sure many people are familiar with).

Anyway today's major issue was trying to figure out how to calculate space used by log files generated by a database over a specific date.

Well I knew that "df -h" would give me all the space used on a drive...

I've installed the following packages because they sound interesting for the task. For now of all of them I just use git git-annex.

Code:
ii bup 0.25-1 amd64 highly efficient file backup system based on git
ii git-annex 5.20140927 amd64 manage files with git, without checking their contents into git
ii graphviz 2.38.0-6 amd64 rich set of graph drawing tools
ii tahoe-lafs 1.10.0-2 all Secure distributed filesystem

I've changed the domain name of my site

Posted 07-15-2013 at 05:53 AM by Pyplate

I was using a free domain name supplied by noip.com, the dynamic DNS provider that I use. This looked unprofessional, and it was hurting my search engine ranking.

I bought a new domain name, and instead of using a dynamic DNS service, I just pointed it to my external IP. My ISP is known for hardly ever changing people's IP address. It's a risk to not use a dynamic DNS service, but I think it's a small risk.

My site currently uses a CMS that I've written myself....
