Getting video hardware to work on Linux is far from painful, especially on Slackware.

Note: A steps taken are done as admin "root".

Step 1: Configuring the X-Server.

Setting up the X-Server is fairly simple. Run command:
Code:
xorgsetup
at a command prompt and it takes care of most of the basics for you, and usually handles all the defaults fairly well, but there are some exceptions.

Step 2: Confirm your driver is setup...

ACER Aspire One A150 running dual boot Linux and WIN XP now

Updated 06-24-2012 at 05:28 AM by error_401 (New Information)

Had some time to fiddle with my netbook lately.

As I use it only for work abroad to connect to the internet and listen to music it was not a priority to change the OS on that one too. And sometimes it comes in handy to have a native Windows System running somewhere.

So I decided on setting up LINUX Debian 6.0 Squeeze to dual boot with Windows XP SP3.

First I had to generate a bootable USB stick following the instructions given in the debian.org tutorial....

ffmpeg - and why it mostly won't work for normal users

Posted 06-19-2012 at 11:38 AM by error_401

Since I've got a new compact digital camera about a year ago I have the trouble that it's internal format is .MTS

.MTS ? What the heck is that? A question a lot of people will come up with as not all of us are the video cracks and sooo knowledgeable about all that stuff.

So - what would work under Linux to do something useful with all your videos having an .mts format?

rsyslog + syslog-ng = gold.

I have a script which parses the syslog-ng logs across all the servers, filters them, and then sends and email with a summary and unusual logs. Each time I got an email I would get, on average, ~200-500 log messages of SELinux errors and...

18th June 2012

So little time to play :-( had my Pi many weeks!

So far had the official Debian distro loaded, config file tweaked to shrink the screen to fit my HDMI TV's and fstab file modified to mount my music and vidieo SMB shares on the server. Will back date this blog with details of the above later, very lax of me I know.

Sound ... oh joy of joys ... Linux and sound is like a shit sandwich, anyone who knows me knows I am a big Linux fan but the...
