Slackware “Clean Upgrade” (with pre- and post-installation tasks)

Introduction

Slackware is perfectly usable from a fresh (full) installation with only two essential tasks to perform after the installation is complete:
  1. creating an initial RAM disk (using mkinitrd) so that one boots to the generic kernel, and
  2. creating at least one non-root user (using adduser).

Everything else — installing additional software, setting up e-mail, etcetera — is really personalizing and/or customizing to suit one’s own tastes and needs....

[v.3.0 (mc2 and libLQ) will no longer be the current version(s) but it still works and we have a bug fix here that applies to all 3.0.x versions.]

Today's feature:
  • A simple C/C++ example.
  • A converter from relative paths to absolute.
  • A bug fix for the libLQ-qt/mc2 3.0 d/load.

While 'canonicalize_file_name()' is great for paths that don't have macros in them, and for dereferencing symlinks,...

great xmas

Thought I managed to save 4 or 5 p1 systems, Two servers bit the dust (or at least one more did). Scavenged those machines and a couple of others while cleaning out the closet. Reclaimed items went to the parts closet.

Brother game me an android tablet for xmas. A whole new world in some ways. For the amount of swipes you do, you can easlity have just tuped in something from a command line....... Guess I will get used to it. Sure there are a lot of hacks for it, but I will wait a...

With sadness I had to bid goodbye to Ubuntu 12.10. No, it was not Unity, because I quite liked it.
Just that applications began crashing once too often. When this became a constant irritation, the nearest I could think of was Mint. So for now sorry Ubuntu.
I also managed to install Arch Linux on a dual boot with Linux Mint. I tested the installation procedure as described in the Arch Wiki in Virtual Box first. After a few misfires I managed to get it right. Then I backed up all data...
