Posted 08-20-2012 at 02:59 PM by kbscores

So this weekend I was doing some research on limiting remote logins. There are so many ways to login to a system the easiest way is just to block everything and then allow essential protocols through. Most common way to access a Linux system remotely is through SSH.
I always thought that getty was used in conjunction with SSH for logging into a system, but it is not. Silly me. So how it works is getty is first checked by init, if everything looks good init spawns a getty process for each...

I thought, and perhaps think even now, that Microsoft treats you as a teenager and act like a 'big bro' which is good when your primary business is not with devices. Linux, on the other hand, gives you more credit than Windows do. The main reason of my being with Windows platform was I focused on productivity, keeping aside my self customized environment.

Tags maté, mint, mintbox

Been playing with this for a while now,
seems quite a good gadget - to play wih.
this one came with Mint13 - cinnamon - partially installed.
just had to complete the install - username, location etc.

haven't used cinnamon before - so was keen to 'give it a run'.
probably prefer Mate - though - but happy to use either. . .

the H/W is quite up-to-date & uses several usb's to connect,
the video is via hdmi & sound vis 2.5mm socket....

Posted 08-17-2012 at 05:01 AM by ted_chou12

Since the chinese character db is huge, these files are usually a few mb in size. Copy a desired copy to /usr/share/fonts/ttf and run fc-cache -f -v thru terminal should be able to do it.
