Building expressions lists - 1

Version 3 of my LQ Challenge program (LQpz_3.c) was a brute force approach, generating Reverse Polish Notation ('rpn') expressions of all conceivable combinations of 4 digits with arithmetic operations + - * / ^ and _ ( the last being for leading negative sign in front of any of the 4 digits). The RPN expression thus generated was evaluated using fractional-exponential integer math routines ('fx') and, if the value was within the target range of 0 to 100, the rpn was converted to an algebraic expression....

Word-Processor File-Types for Scripting

Posted 05-29-2019 at 06:30 AM by Michael Uplawski
Updated 09-19-2020 at 01:46 AM by Michael Uplawski (SoftMaker Office 2021 has improved xml standard-compliance)

The Big Unification
Current Word-processors read and write different XML-based file-formats. The standards which are more or less implemented by these programs, are OOXML and/or OpenDocument. I write “more or less”, because for diverse reasons, Office-suites differ in the way that they compose documents of one certain type. The variations can result in a completely valid document or one that diverts from the standard and the existing schema-definitions (xsd). There is always the risk that

Another "Bash script for queueing youtube links in mpv", adapted for hovering + shortcut keys on possibly multiple contexts

Updated 10-11-2020 at 05:05 PM by the dsc

This script is partly based on this one, referred on the post title:

https://www.reddit.com/r/commandline..._links_in_mpv/

It was originally an independent development, so it relies in some aspects more on mpv.conf (to define its input pipe/fifo file), so one may want to modify it according to whatever preference regarding that.

The main difference is a gimmick to get the URL from where the cursor is hovering...

Introduction
The following information concentrates on the latest long-term versions of Debian, Ubuntu and Mint, namely Debian 9 (Stretch), Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic) and Mint 19.x (Tara, Tessa, Tina, ...), but should be applicable, with modifications, to any Debian-derived distro.

Note that the instructions don't cover the addition or deletion of repositories to/from your software sources. It is intended rather as a diagnostic tool when apt update is generating errors that appear...

Get Brackets working on Ubuntu >=18.04 and Mint 19.x

Posted 05-23-2019 at 04:03 AM by hydrurga
Updated 05-23-2019 at 07:49 AM by hydrurga

The problem
Brackets, the useful web development editor and environment, can be downloaded as a deb archive from http://brackets.io/. However, the package has a dependency on libcurl3, while Ubuntu Bionic and variants, and later versions, use libcurl4. Installing the package will therefore install libcurl3, and remove libcurl4, curl and any packages that depend on these. Not recommended.

This problem has existed for quite some time now, has been reported as an issue several...
