New beta version of Pyplate CMS

Posted 05-17-2014 at 01:08 PM by Pyplate

I've made a lot of improvements to Pyplate. New posts can now be saved to a drafts folder before they are published, and they can also be previewed while in the draft area.

I've added a page to the UI where you can export and import the database to XML files. This makes it easier to display the database in a human readable form. You can edit the XML files and re-import them to make changes to the database.

Pyplate now uses a comment template and a sharing template...

The "DE" environment variable affects xdg-open settings/behavior

Posted 05-16-2014 at 06:32 PM by the dsc (linux-related notes)

I once saw someone who had "export DE=openbox", and so I changed accordingly, it was "kde" before, even though I'm on Openbox.

But now I realize that it affects things like xdg-open, which is set by configurations that I think aim to set almost-universal file associations. I think that perhaps Openbox "doesn't even count" as a DE to the related settings, so the result is that, for example, you can't open some stuff with the associated app from google...

ExTiX 14.1 Light, build 140515, with Razor-qt and kernel 3.15.0-0-exton

Posted 05-15-2014 at 03:00 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

NEWS ABOUT ExTiX 14.1 Light build 140515

I’ve made a new lighter version of ExTiX 14.1. It uses Razor-qt as Desktop Environment, Slim as Login Manager and kernel 3.15.0-0-exton. (Razor-qt is an advanced, easy-to-use, and fast desktop environment based on Qt technologies. It has been tailored for users who value simplicity, speed, and an intuitive interface).

blinky blinky blinky

Posted 05-15-2014 at 01:31 AM by rocket357 (Musings on technology, philosophy, and life in the corporate world)

Bought a beaglebone black.

And a bunch of LEDs, resistors, jumpers and a breadboard. Time for a little fun.

Installed OpenBSD-5.5 on the beaglebone (tried running CURRENT...ouch. Compiling on this thing hurts because the sd card is so incredibly slow...probably my fault, as I used a cheap class 4 micro sd...).

Wired up a simple circuit and started gpioctl'ing pins. Hrmmm. Nothing works. Perform OpenBSD-project problem remediation:

Logrotate - Not Just for the System

Posted 05-13-2014 at 01:26 PM by rtmistler
Tags logrotate

I've seen a few threads about logrotate. Two thread types I've noticed are:
  1. Persons not understanding logrotate and how to use it
  2. Persons not happy with logrotate and it's normal means of operation - mainly because they'd like to use it for something other than the system log files.
My intentions here are to cover the second case however I will start describing a bit about logrotate and how to use it. So those who are new to logrotate and seeking some guidance, the general overview section...
