To dish or not to dish...

I've been bashing Comcast a lot lately, but today an even stranger "let's piss Jonathon off" event took place. See, we use Comcast for internet service only. I'd like to be in a position to go with fiber, but until we buy that dream house up on the hill, I'll have to settle (to be completely honest, Comcast isn't all *that* bad as I have written them up to be). I've configured a bunch of "obfuscating" services, such as tor, dnscrypt, etc... so Comcast knows as little as possible...

Idea for an script to prevent xscreensaver while watching videos on a browser

Posted 03-15-2015 at 12:54 AM by the dsc (linux-related notes)

The core concept is just:

Code:
while true ; do

wmctrl -l | grep -i "youtube\|vimeo" && xscreensaver-command -deactivate

sleep 5m

done
Perhaps it would be more elegant to have something that somehow works more accordingly to xscreensaver's time rather than this thing that has smaller cycles just to play it safe.

Won't work for embedded videos, though, as "youtube"...

My second build of Android-x86 KitKat with kernel 3.18.8-exton-android-x86

I have compiled yet another Android x86 system (KitKat 4.4.4), which can run live (from CD) or be installed on almost all laptops (and some Desktop computers). For example Acer (Aspire), HP, Samsung, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Thinkpad, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Ausus laptops. The Android system is distributed in the form of an ISO file as the rest of my Linux distributions. I.e. you must (as usual) burn the ISO file to a CD if you want to run the system live on your computer or install it to hard drive....

timer.c:331: fatal error: RUNTIME_CHECK(isc_time_no w((&now)) == 0) failed

Posted 03-09-2015 at 10:34 AM by MensaWater

Posting this because all I found on line were multiple links to a single google post about this error.

On a RHEL5.10 system this morning I did a "dig" and got the error:
timer.c:331: fatal error: RUNTIME_CHECK(isc_time_now((&now)) == 0) failed

Clearly the message is related to time and in the US this past weekend we switched to daylight saving time (in my case we went from EST to EDT). Initially I thought it was because the system I was on didn't...
